Where renovation savings actually come from
Waste allowance. The 10–20% overage exists for cuts and breakage, and it is priced into every line above. A straight layout instead of diagonal, planning cuts so offcuts start the next row, and buying the allowance as returnable unopened boxes can recover much of it.
Bulk and pro pricing. Many big-box stores offer volume pricing on large orders through their pro desk, and tile shops often discount full pallets. Ask before checkout; it is rarely advertised on the shelf.
Timing. Paint and flooring go on sale around US holiday weekends. If the job can wait, the list above tells you exactly what to buy when it does.
