Flooring questions
How much extra flooring should I buy?
Around 10% for most rooms, 5% for large simple rectangles, and 15% for rooms with angles, many doorways or a diagonal layout. Keep a spare box for future repairs.
How many square feet are in a box of vinyl plank?
It varies by brand and plank size, commonly 18 to 30 sq ft. Always use the figure on the box label; that is the input this calculator needs.
Do I need underlayment for LVP?
Many rigid-core planks come with an attached pad and need only a vapor barrier over concrete. Adding a second pad can void the warranty, so check the install guide.
Which way should planks run?
Usually parallel to the longest wall or the main light source, and perpendicular to floor joists for solid hardwood on a wood subfloor.
